Lutheran Hour Ministries Kicks Off Series of Regional Outreach Conferences with Sold-out Event in Arizona

Phoenix, AZ, Feb. 19, 2011 - Lutheran Hour Ministries embarked on a new world of outreach training when it kicked off its year-long series of Regional Outreach Conferences Feb. 18-19 in Phoenix, Arizona. The conferences are designed to train and encourage God's people to be mission-minded witnesses for Jesus Christ, ready and able to speak His truth to struggling souls wherever they may be. A sold-out crowd of more than 300 people attended the inaugural conference in Phoenix.

Friday night's opening session included uplifting worship music from Kip Fox, an inspiring and entertaining musical performance from indie-jazz artist Erin Bode, an introduction to the work of Lutheran Hour Ministries from LHM Executive Director Bruce Wurdeman, a welcome from International Lutheran Laymen's League President Mick Onnen, and greetings from Arizona Governor Jan Brewer.

"I am honored and delighted to be a part of Lutheran Hour Ministries launching its series of Regional Outreach Conferences here in Arizona," said Gov. Brewer. "As a Lutheran I know how important it is to improve the ability to share your faith. I have never doubted that God has a plan for all of us. Thank you all for attending this conference and for your commitment of shining Christ into the world."

The opening session continued with a devotion from Rev. Greg Seltz, the newly named Speaker of The Lutheran Hour, and a presentation by Dr. Micah Parker, founder of Trustguy Ministries and a nationally known motivational speaker who challenges people to place full trust in God's calling for their lives.

"We hope this will be a mountaintop experience for you," said Rev. Seltz. "God is the rock of salvation, and He loves to be your rock, the one you can count on. We are servants in His hands and can help others know about the Jesus we know so well. This conference is a wonderful opportunity to learn how to share your faith in Jesus Christ."

"My job tonight is to push you out of your spiritual comfort zone," said Dr. Parker, who shared how every Christian, even the most unlikely of candidates, has a place in God's mission of seeking and saving the lost. "What will be your battle cry? As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord!"

The conference continues all day Saturday with more devotions from Rev. Seltz, a mainstage presentation from the Rev. Dr. Bob Newton, President of the California-Nevada-Hawaii district of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod, three sets of breakout sessions, and a powerful closing worship service led by the Rev. Dr. Ken Klaus, Speaker Emeritus of The Lutheran Hour.
